HELLO,EVERYONE,JUST A LITTLE INSIDE INFO ON THIS BIKE,TO PREVENT ANYONE FROM GOING THROUGH WHAT I WENT THROUGH.HAD ENGINE OIL BEING DEPOSITED UNDER GAS TANK,COULD NOT IDENTIFY WHERE IT WAS FROM,FINALLY DID,OIL PRESSURE SWITCH WAS BAD AND WAS PUSHING OIL THROUGH IT'S OWN CABLE HOUSING,THUS MAKING A MESS WHEN IT FINALLY CAME OUT THE OTHER END WHERE IT CONNECTED UNDER GAS TANK,HAD OIL ALL OVER OTHER WIRING,NEEDLESS TO SAY IT TURN INTO A REAL NIGHTMARE,MAYBE THE PEOPLE AT BMW CAN EXPLAIN WHY THERE IS NOT A HOLE ON RUBBER CAP OVER OIL PRESSURE SWITCH? THIS WOULD KEEP ANY PRESSURE FROM BUILDING INSIDE THE RUBBER CAP,AND ONE COULD QUICKLY IDENTIFY A FAULTY SWITCH AND SIMPLY REPLACE IT.I SPENT DAYS CLEANING WIRES AND HARNESSES TO KEEP THEM FROM SHORTING OUT...I STILL LOVE MY OLD "FLYING BRICK"SAFE RIDING EVERYONE.....

» List of frame numbers «
  from Jack Aeckerlin

Thanks for your wonderful site. From the lists with frame numbers/time of production you publish I could convince the Dutch Vehicle Inspection Authority RDW that the documents they issued way back in 2000 for my R75/6 were in fact wrong and that my bike is in fact a 60/5, built in April 1970 with a 75/6 block, built in June 1974. That also implies I now can have a classic registration number with a classic number plate (and a classic insurance). Thanks a lot!

» Specs «
  from Tony Gazo

I wanted to thank you for the specifications I was looking for related to my 1983 R-100RT. I was looking for fuel tank capacity and you provided the information.

Since I've got your attention, I bought the bike used (w/only 16K miles on it) in 2001. I didn't get an owner's manual and since you've such a wealth of information, I was wondering if you might know how I could go about purchasing an owner's manual.

Thank you.

  from Ed Hollingsworth

From Brentwood, CAlifornia, the good old US of A.
Great site, I actually found the information I was looking for regarding the 1992 R100RS. I have been debating whether or not to purchase one that I found at a dealership in San Jose, and although I am still debating whether or not to purchase, I now at least have the specifications for this bike, as well as the number produced.
I have had BMW's since 1977, and have always enjoyed not only the bikes, but also meeting the people who ride them.
Your "Black Museum" was almost painful to look at, and is a strong reminder for me to get my current machine, a R1150RT, in for its annual.
Keep up the great work!
Ed

» BMW R-72? «
  from Scott

Hello, I own several Russian motorcycles similar to the R-71. On the Russian site I frequent, I posted a photo of what is supposedly a BMW R-72 hoping some of the guys there knew about it. However, we couldn't collectively figure it out. I do not think it is a Russian knock-off. I feel it is a true R-75 flathead prototype of some sort.

Here's a link to our discussion. The R-72 is pictured a couple times near the bottom.
