Just started looking at this site a couple of days ago, I have found it very informative.

I have owned BMW's since May 1980, as follows:-

May 1980 - 1984 2 x R100RS 1978 %26 1982 models.
1984 - 1989 K100RS
1989 - 1990 K100Rs
1990 - Present K110RS - this bike is now 20 years old and in good order.

» BMW R71 engine numbers «
  from Alan

What a fantastic site! Extremely helpful and just saved me from making a major purchasing mistake. The R71 engine numbers begin with 7 and a fellow was advertising one with the number 163421. Seems BMW never made an engine with that number. Is this perhaps a number for a Ural or DKW?

Thanks again for creating this site, I plan to visit it often.

Recently acquired the 4th bike in the garage, a '75 R90/6. Less than 13000 orig. miles. Doing a complete restoration. Messy and expensive, but should be worth the effort. This website will be of great help to me throughout the project. Thanks.

  from Rod Thompson

I have been a BMW enthusiast for 40+ years and find that the work you folks do to keep everyone, like myself, headed down the right road by providing otherwise impossible to find information is invaluable! Your dedication to the name plate and to other enthusiasts is to be commended! Keep up the great work. I am new to your site as I only found out about it this afternoon but count on my being back...often! I wish you all the best! » 1930's ?? BMW identification «
  from RC Ellis

Hello! I'm new to this site and I'm not sure what/how to go about this but I'm looking for some help in identifying 2 BMWs I've had for quite a while. I'm pretty sure they are from the 1930's and are both single cyclinder models. Both are 95%+ complete, one even has a passenger/paillion seat and front metal leg protectors. I've been told one was a police model. Both engines turn over freely and shift. Sheet metal is all there but surface is rusty. I'm trying to figure out for sure what year/model they are and possibly what they are worth for I may be moving in the next year. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Y141972@aol.com I reside in MO. Thanks!

I discovered this site whilst brousing for info. with a view to buying. I've been riding all different sorts for 40+ years and fancied an F650 for a change.
This is probably the best source of info. I've come across outside of owners clubs.
Very useful and appreciated.

» motorsport S «
  from Bruce Williams

I have a 78 R-100-S Motorsport Vin 6067586 shipped May 4, 1979 from Butler and Smith to Lane Cycle in Perry Ohio USA. I bought it unserviced and just out of the crate. MSO states 70 HP, speedo goes to 140mph, reads in MPH. no Krauser bags. 1000cc and R-100-S decals for battery covers were in tool tray. blue dual seat. Motor says R-100-S, frame says r-100-s. 2.91 final drive, I paid $4913.00 for it. still have it, and it is all original with 50,000 miles on it. If any other info is needed, just email me. My understanding is that 200 RS morossports were shipped to the US, but have heard that 66 S motorsports were sent here. I do know that our local dealer Alex Cycle shop in Warren Ohio sold two of the S motorsports.

» 1983 BMW R-100 «
  from john skinner

i have recently purchased this "european delivered" BMW R-100 , and it has some unique German factory options i think , and i am not even sure if it is a R-100 , or an R-100 CS ?? - its frame / number is 6401463 , and it was collected from the BMW factory in Germany on the 27/10/1983, as i have the original owners manual with all european service details in it - and last service was in paris on the 19/06/1985 , at 37581 kms , and then it was shipped back to OZZ , and serviced in melbourne on 02/06/1987 , at 46221 kms - please advise how to find out build BMW Factory build details as i am interested in its full history etc. - i am going to do a full ground up rebuild on it and want to be sure i get accurate original specs etc. - regards John Skinner

» BMW R100/7 tickover noise «
  from Dennis Byron Marriott

Having just completed the restoration of my R100/7 I find that during tickover there is a noise that I cannot account for, it sound like induction noise and it disappears as revs increase, the bike runs perfectly under road conditions without any increase in this noise.
Has anyone experienced this or can explaine it's source

Thank you for having pictures of the bikes so I can see all the factory colors. Some I have not seen yet for sale. To bad it is not possible to know if all the colors were available in the USA. I presently own a R/100/S and it is a sunset color that was brought into the US from Canada. I have never seen the color anywhere else in the USA.
