Segway X160 electric dirt bike Review: the CHEAPEST Ebike on Amazon
Interested in the Segway Ninebot X160 Ebike? Are you considering buying an electric dirt bike? Not sure what to expect?
In this review, we’ll walk you through a detailed breakdown of our experience with a $3500 electric dirt bike, so you can make an informed decision.
Unboxing Experience: A Disappointing Start

When our electric dirt bike arrived, we were excited to open the box and start the adventure. However, we were met with disappointment. The bike was covered in dirt and poorly boxed, raising concerns about its design and handling during shipping. Not the best first impression.
Assembly: A Fun Challenge for Beginners
Assembling the electric dirt bike was quite an interesting experience. The box included various parts like tires, fenders, and a tool kit. We must confess, we had little experience with electric motorcycles, but we managed to complete the assembly with a little trial and error. It was a fun challenge for beginners!
Technical Specifications: What You Need to Know
The electric dirt bike comes with some important technical specifications that you should be aware of:
- Battery and Performance: The bike features a replaceable battery, but we struggled to find additional batteries for purchase. The lower-end version offers a range of 40 miles and a top speed of 31 mph, while the higher-end model provides 76 miles and 46 mph. Keep these numbers in mind when planning your rides.
- Design and Build Quality: The bike has a unique design, blending elements of both a mountain bike and a dirt bike. Despite our initial concerns, the bike proved to have decent build quality compared to cheaper alternatives. It’s a hybrid that stands out!
Our Experience with the Bike: Some Bumps Along the Way

Once we assembled the bike, it was time to put it to the test. Unfortunately, we encountered some issues along the way:
- Performance Testing: Starting the bike and unlocking its full power via a smartphone app proved to be more complicated than we anticipated. It was frustrating needing an app just to access the bike’s capabilities.
- Range and Speed Tests: We decided to test the bike’s claimed range, and it fell short of our expectations. At maximum performance, the bike only achieved 10 miles before entering a reduced speed mode, which is significantly lower than the advertised range.
Key Issues: Range Anxiety and App Dependence
During our testing, we encountered two key issues:
- Range Anxiety: Like many electric vehicle users, we faced the fear of running out of battery power before reaching a charging station. This “range anxiety” is something to consider when planning your rides.
- App Dependence: We were not fans of the reliance on a smartphone app to unlock the bike’s full potential. It felt like an unnecessary burden and undermined the user experience and convenience.
Conclusion and Final Thoughts

Overall, our review of the electric dirt bike was not very positive in terms of its performance and the issues we encountered during testing. However, we didn’t let that discourage us!
We came up with a creative solution – we modified the bike to function as a hybrid, allowing it to charge while in use. And guess what? It worked! This modification greatly alleviated our range anxiety and enhanced the bike’s usability.
While our initial experience with the electric dirt bike wasn’t great, we managed to turn it into a more functional electric motorcycle.
So, if you’re up for a challenge and want to tinker with your bike, this might be the perfect option for you!
